The Globular Cluster of Hercules (also known as M 13 from its position in the Messier Catalog, or as NGC 6205) is a globular cluster visible in the constellation of Hercules.

It is the brightest globular cluster in the northern hemisphere and is also visible to the naked eye.

M13 was first observed by Halley in 1715. Messier observed it in 1764 and described it thus: "Nebula without stars, discovered in the belt of Hercules; it is round and bright, the brightest center of the edges, it is seen with one one foot instrument; it is close to two stars, both of eighth magnitude, one above and one below ".

M13 has an apparent magnitude of 5.8. Its real diameter is around 165 light years.

M13 contains several hundred thousand stars, the brightest of which is 11.95 magnitude. Around its core, the stars are about 500 times more concentrated than around the solar system. The age of M 13 has been estimated between 12 and 14 billion years. Its distance from Earth is 23,157 light years.

L'Ammasso Globulare di Ercole (conosciuto anche come M 13 dalla sua posizione nel Catalogo di Messier, oppure come NGC 6205) è un ammasso globulare visibile nella costellazione di Ercole.

Si tratta dell'ammasso globulare più luminoso dell'emisfero boreale ed è visibile anche ad occhio nudo.

M13 fu osservato per la prima volta da Halley nel 1715. M13 contiene diverse centinaia di migliaia di stelle, la più brillante delle quali è di magnitudine 11.95. Attorno al suo nucleo, le stelle sono circa 500 volte più concentrate che nei dintorni del sistema solare. L'età di M 13 è stata stimata tra i 12 e i 14 miliardi di anni. La sua distanza dalla Terra è di 23.157 anni luce.
